A coffee blend is a combination of different coffee beans sourced from various origins, regions, or species. Blending allows roasters to create a flavour profile by harmonizing the qualities of different coffees. Blends are normally cheaper to produce as they sometimes allow roasters to mix lower-cost beans to achieve a desired flavour thereby reducing the overall cost of production.
By blending different coffees, roasters can balance out certain qualities, mask potential defects, or create a more crowd-pleasing flavour profile, often at a lower cost than sourcing and highlighting single-origin coffees.
